Kovalam is a very famous
beach resort all over the world. Since
1930's the international tourists,
especially the Europeans, frequent the
Kovalam Beach. Kovalam along with the
crescent-shaped beaches bordered by coconut
and palm trees makes for a splendid setting
for a sun and sea bathing. The Lighthouse
Beach is the southern most beaches and is
popular among the tourists who spend most of
their time at this beach.
Life on Kovalam beach begins late in the
day and continues till late at night.
Besides sitting and getting a lovely tan
at the beach, there are several other
leisure options at this beach like
catamaran cruise, herbal body toning
massages, sunbathing, swimming, special
cultural programmes etc. you may find
numerous accommodation facilities
varying from low cost lodges to

Beypore Beach is located at
the mouth of the Chaliyar River. It was
earlier famous for the Ship Building
industry. Beypore was one of the most
important port and fishing harbor of Kerala
during ancient times. The place was an
important trade and maritime center for
merchants from Western Asia. Uru, the
traditional Arabian trading vessel, was
constructed at the boat-building yard of
Beypore. Beypore also has a magnificent
bridge built entirely of stone.
Marari Beach got its
name from the local fishing village
Mararikulam. It has long pristine sandy
beaches where the swaying palms and
majestic coconut groves add to the
beauty of the beach. It is an ideal
beach to be in peace and tranquility
unlike the hush and rush of the city
life. You will get a first hand
experience of the local traditions,
customs and hospitality of Kerala.
Varkala attracts tourists
not only for its beach resort but is also a
famous pilgrim center. The beach is ideal
holiday destination if you are on a look out
for calmness and serenity. At Varkala beach,
bask in the golden glory of the sun to get
yourself a lovely copper tan. The mineral
water of the hills is believed to possess
medicinal properties. Varkala is known as
the 'Southern Kashi' because of the
800-year-old Janardhana temple dedicated to
Ayyapan and Hanuman.
Bekal Beach is a small
beach very near to Kovalam. It is famous for
some of the very beautiful views of the
sunset. The beach will provide you an
insight into Kerala's coastal life. Bekal
Beach is a fine example of amicable cultural
ties among the Portuguese, Dutch and the
local Kings in the pre-colonial era. The
antiquity of the port can be made out from
the ruins of some rock-cut temples.
Poovar Beach separates
the Neyyar River from the sea.
Essentially a fishing village, it is a
beautiful and unexplored beach resort.
You can reach the Poovar Beach by water
taxis only. The beach is not used for
beach activities and water sports
because of the fishing population. But
Poovar beach can be visited to its peace
and tranquility.
